Total Floor Area
This newly built five-story office building is a part of the Trendex company headquarters located in Gwangju-si, Gyeonggi-do, about an hour from downtown Seoul. Trendex is a clothing retail company specializing in young and trendy casual wear. The owner wanted this additional office building to be a place for work, play, and rest.
The street B2 level is dedicated to parking and a coffee bar area for employees, coworkers, and clients. The B1 level is where the creative workshop is located; it has an open landscaped plan for designers to gather, brainstorm, and create. The first level has a reception that can be approached directly from the parking lot of the adjacent warehouse and existing office structure. The second and third levels are dedicated to company management and administration personnel. The whole layout of the building is very similar to YKH Associates Headquarters in Seoul, utilizing the wrapping stairs idea. Users experience various spatial moments through the stairs surrounding the building; it was designed to provide a variety of experiences due to the succession of closed and partially opened spaces with views while climbing the stairs leading to the roof garden. This staircase connects the road, and the warehouse lot levels, creating an interesting visual sequencing, as if climbing a mountain. We have used red bricks that were refurbished and cleaned to create a dated and renovated look instead of a newly built structure.
