Oyala Convention & Observatory

Equatorial Guinea,
Africa

2012

Site Area
3,572.60 SM

Total Floor Area
22,240.90 SM
Oyala Observatory Tower is composed of three programs:  Offices, a Control Center, and viewing observatory. This multi-functional building utilizes the unique combination of function and icon to create a national and international landmark for Equatorial Guinea. Its function of observation, offices and control center will facilitate city planning and growth.

The Tower will be an observation point to survey, in real-time, the process of this historical undertaking in modern equatorial Guinean history. To come up with the landmark design, we have simply combined very basic volumes of a tower and a base to make a L-shape volume and by using a pulling and pushing shaping method, we have created a new transformed volume that is both unique and timeless. The building is a steel framed structure that is clad in stone and glass.
