The owner of the Sports Center in a very prominent river front district requested us to come up with an idea to update his old building while minimizing a difficult “government approval” stage due to its location cultural preservation area. Our bold idea was to build a new facade that is also a “public sculpture”. This facade is to be built with an eco-friendly construction method. Within two layers of structural glass cladding, a layer of deciduous plantings are to be placed so that viewers will “feel” a change of “season." With an approval from the city, the Owner achieves his goal, renovating his dated building as well as providing a “landmark” to the public.
