Bank of Oklahoma - Williams Center

tulsa,
oklahoma

1977

Total Floor Area:
13,900 SM

Parking:
160 cars
The principal concept behind the master plan of this 22 acre site was to provide a separation between pedestrian and vehicular traffic without interrupting the existing grid of streets running through the site. This was accomplished by taking advantage of the site topography which steps down by about one level per block, and introducing a series of elevated pedestrian walkways to connect the various elements of the master plan. As the dominant element in the overall master plan, this fifty-two story office tower contains the headquarters for both the Bank of Oklahoma and the Williams Companies. Contained within a low structure at the base of the tower, the public banking, support functions and retail areas operate independently from the office tower and its activities. A slope of one full story across the site permits grade-level access to the upper public banking floor from the South and street-level access to the lower service and retail areas from the North. In addition to the office tower, other components of the master plan included a fivehundred room hotel, several retail areas, additional office buildings, parking facilities, a two-acre park, and a Performing Arts Center.
